The black bear is a family member to both Squamish and Lil’wat people. It is found from the the valley floors to the alpine meadows in both territories.

Tours
Guests can take a guided tour or self-guided tour of the centre. Self-guided tours are available with either an audio headset or an exhibit map and our map is available in 7 different languages! Every work of art and historical artifact has a larger story behind it. Our Squamish and Lil'wat guides and artists are happy to share their experiences with you – experiences that can open a fascinating new world view.
Tours of the Exhibits take place each hour on the hour and include the opportunity for guests to participate through drumming and crafts. Each tour starts with a drumming performance, followed by our short film on the nations, tours take about 25 minutes and focus on a specific element of our culture, history and art.
Our Winter Featured Tours:
Drums and rattles
An introduction to the music of our nations. We will be looking and exploring the styles, sounds, and meaning of the different drums and rattles here at the SLCC.
Canoes and paddles
This 20 minute workshop will give you a glimpse of how our ancestors lived by exploring the importance of canoes to our culture. At the end of the session you will also have a chance to try your hand at carving.
Plants and berries
Our land is rich with plant and animal life and we have always known when the best time is for hunting and gathering. Discover some of the plants and berries that are important to our Nations.
Legends and language
Capture a glimpse of how our ancestors lived by hearing folklore and seeing examples of cultural practices. This tour will provide insights into our connections with the earth and the beauty of our surroundings.
