ONLINE ACTIVITIES

Cultural Journey: In partnership with the Ministry of Transport, the Squamish Nation and Lil’wat Nation are re-designing highway signage along the Sea-to-Sky Corridor (from West Vancouver to Whistler) to incorporate First Nations art and culture. Paddle shaped signs will signal stops of historic and cultural significance. Scenic stops will emphasize the link between landscape and legend, and help visitors understand and appreciate our vibrant cultures and our history in the territory.

To complement the Cultural Journey along the highway, we have added an online component for your learning pleasure: www.culturaljourney.ca

Squamish Lil'wat On-line Gallery: This on-line exhibition of collections showcases objects, photographs, audio and video that are relevant to the history of our two Nations, part of the world-class offering of the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre.

Through partnerships with major collecting institutions such as the Royal British Columbia Museum, the Museum of Civilization and the Museum of Anthropology, our Nations have brought together collections that depict our culture in one virtual space for all Canadians to enjoy.

The on-line gallery acts as a dynamic multi-media collection, drawing from Squamish and Lil’wat collections housed in major collections elsewhere and complementing the array of exhibits on physical display at the Centre.

The traditional territories of our two Nations cover much of South-Western British Columbia and represent much of the cultural richness that greeted early explorers to this region. This is the first time the remaining cultural items of our people have been assembled in a single location. This exhibition is groundbreaking in its ability to bridge the collections of all the major museums in Canada currently housing Squamish and Lil’wat items, bringing them together in one virtual space for the exploration and enjoyment of people around the world.

The Squamish Lil'wat online activities, including the interactive "Treasure Hunt" and "Memory Teaser" learning materials are intriguing to kids of all ages, while the exhaustive collection and superior quality of images are a treasure trove for an academic audience.
