For centuries, the First Nations People living in Coastal areas, have used Western Red Cedar in cooking, to give their food a unique and wonderful flavour. You, too, can experience the rich, smoky flavour and aroma of cedar grilled food at home, using B.C. Coastal Grilling Planks 100% natural.

At the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre there is a wide range of authentic Aboriginal artwork and jewelry available - from museum quality collector's items to small cultural mementoes affordable for any family member.

Cedar Baskets
Cedar has always figured prominently in Lil'wat basket making. Traditional patterns have been inspired by the surrounding environment, depicting such elements as mountains, rivers, and thunder. There is equal skill required in harvesting, preparing, and weaving. Typically, it takes up to a year from the time the roots and bark can be harvested to the completion of the finished product.

Masks
Masks are a major aspect of the physical and spiritual fabric of our society. When presented in its proper context a mask must bring the owner esteem, enhance the pride of his family and lineage. It must sway an audience so that the people are astounded by what they see.

Jewelry
In the last century, gold and silver jewelry has been a very prominent medium for expressing BC Aboriginal artistic styles. As with other art forms, each culture carves figures represented in their environment or told in their stories. Eagle is a universal symbol because it is one of the strongest and most powerful creatures.

Clothing
We have many original fashion designers who are inspired by our traditional patterns and styles, interpreting them in modern wearable art.
